We are recruiting for a Qualified Surveyor/Estimator to join a specialist Property Services Division on a permanent basis. This role is within a profitable division focused on insurance loss repair and reinstatement works, including damage from floods, fires, escapes of water, lightning strikes, and building defects. The work spans domestic properties, multiple occupancy residential buildings, educational facilities, industrial sites, and commercial structures.

A significant portion of the projects are negotiated, with some tendered opportunities. We seek candidates eager to thrive in this niche of the construction industry, handling tendered and negotiated projects valued between £10,000 and £500,000, as well as measured term/schedule of rates projects ranging from £20,000 to £100,000.

The division emphasizes repeat business, fostering relationships built on mutual trust and cooperation with clients, consultants, and subcontractors. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player, capable of maintaining these positive dynamics.

In this commercially focused role, you will work alongside Contracts Managers and Site Managers to deliver projects safely, on schedule, to high quality standards, within budget, and meeting margin goals—all while preserving strong stakeholder relationships.

You should be self-motivated, able to operate independently with minimal guidance, and preferably live within a 45-minute drive of the Gloucester base. The position involves travel to sites and the office, with opportunities for home working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building up, pricing, and calculating estimated net costs for tendered and negotiated projects.
  • Measuring works on site and calculating quantities.
  • Measuring works from drawings and calculating quantities.
  • Taking photographic records before, during, and after works.
  • Compiling and submitting quotations.
  • Negotiating and agreeing contract sums on negotiated projects.
  • Preparing and agreeing monthly valuations and final account forecasts.
  • Preparing interim and final invoices.
  • Pricing and agreeing variations, and finalizing accounts.
  • Obtaining and negotiating subcontractor sums.
  • Attending subcontractor pre-order meetings.
  • Placing subcontractor orders.
  • Checking, agreeing, and processing subcontractor payments.
  • Checking, pricing, and agreeing subcontractor variations.
  • Checking and agreeing subcontractors' final accounts.
  • Attending site meetings.
  • Maintaining organized project files and records.
  • Attending team meetings.
  • Providing commercial and contractual advice to team members.

You will report to and receive support from the Managing Surveyor and Associate Director.

Candidate Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of construction technology, building regulations, JCT Contracts & Subcontracts, measured term/schedule of rates projects, and health & safety.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and similar tools.
  • Ideally, hold a relevant professional qualification.
