Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor

Location: Cheltenham / Wiltshire / Oxfordshire

Contract: Initial 3 months

Type: Freelance / Temporary

Sector: Residential Development

O’Neill & Brennan are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor to support a leading residential developer across their Cotswolds region. This is an immediate freelance requirement, initially for 3 months, taking commercial responsibility across two live residential developments within Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.

The successful Surveyor will work across the regional office in Cheltenham and the two developments, with an expectation of being site-based approximately 2–3 days per week. You will be joining an established commercial team and will have junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyors working alongside and underneath you, so we are particularly interested in experienced Senior or Managing QS-level candidates who are comfortable overseeing both project commercial performance and junior members of the team.

The role will typically involve:

  • Commercial management of two live residential developments
  • Subcontractor procurement, management and account administration
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and CVRs
  • Valuations, variations and payments
  • Managing and closing subcontractor accounts
  • Working closely with site, technical and commercial teams
  • Supporting and overseeing junior members of the commercial team
  • Maintaining strong commercial control across both developments

We are looking for somebody with a strong background in residential development / housebuilding, ideally who has previously operated at Senior QS or Managing QS level and is comfortable picking up existing live schemes with minimal handholding.

The client will provide the successful freelancer with the necessary laptop, mobile and system access, allowing them to integrate properly with the existing commercial team. Candidates will be required to interview with the Commercial Manager prior to appointment.

To apply, please send an up-to-date CV or get in touch with Reece Kershaw at O’Neill & Brennan for a confidential discussion regarding the projects, rate and expected start date.

O’Neill and Brennan values diversity and promotes equality. All individuals will be treated in a fair and equal manner and in accordance with the law regardless of gender, marital status, race, religion, colour, age, disability or sexual orientation.
