O'Neill & Brennan are working on behalf of a well-established civil engineering contractor with a strong track record of delivering high-profile infrastructure and groundworks projects across Central London. Due to a healthy pipeline of work and ongoing growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Environmental Sustainability Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven environmental professional to play a key role in shaping and implementing the company's sustainability strategy — ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, driving continuous improvement, and promoting sustainable practices across all operations. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and implementing initiatives that support the company's long-term environmental goals, reporting directly to the Head of SHEQ.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the company's environmental and sustainability strategy in line with business objectives.
  • Lead on carbon reduction initiatives, monitoring progress and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee the development of key performance metrics related to sustainability, social value, and environmental impact.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance and continual improvement in line with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards.
  • Manage and coordinate green building accreditations such as BREEAM, including certification processes and performance tracking.
  • Support the development of sustainability reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with departments across the business to embed sustainable practices and drive cultural change.
  • Keep up to date with environmental legislation, industry best practices, and sustainability trends.
  • Support the Head of SHEQ in setting and achieving long-term sustainability targets.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in an environmental or sustainability Advisor/Consultant role within construction or civils.
  • Strong understanding of green building accreditations (e.g., BREEAM).
  • Good working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing sustainability performance metrics.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Relevant environmental or sustainability qualification (e.g., IEMA, environmental management, or similar discipline).
