This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. The classroom teacher is responsible for implementing and delivering the Adult Early Childhood curriculum for the VPI program. The role operates under general supervision, coordinating with instructional personnel, administrators, parents, and county officials to ensure program effectiveness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan and conduct daily activities that develop children intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially, according to their developmental stages.
  • Develop daily lesson plans and implement the adopted curriculum using various instructional strategies and media.
  • Evaluate and record student progress.
  • Maintain a physical environment that meets county and state safety and cleanliness regulations.
  • Plan and execute parent/family activities, workshops, and home visits as needed.
  • Plan and direct activities for the paraprofessional.
  • Screen students and meet with them to determine eligibility.
  • Communicate with parents/families regularly through phone calls, newsletters, and workshops.
  • Maintain required VPI records for state monitoring.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, conferences, and professional meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Title I Preschool, Head Start, and Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude, teamwork, and pleasant demeanor.
  • Serve as a role model for children in all domains of development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Report Preparation:

  • Prepare daily attendance reports, weekly lesson plans, field trip request and notification forms, parent/teacher conference forms, etc.

Equipment Operation:

  • Use copy machine, computer, telephone, and laminator.

Contacts:

  • Frequent contact with school personnel including principal, teachers, cafeteria staff, Early Childhood Support Specialist, and others as necessary.

Work Direction:

  • Provide direction to substitutes, classroom paraprofessional, and other classroom visitors.

Decision Making:

  • Use good judgment and independent decision-making regarding children, parents, and staff in accordance with CCPS policies and VPI legislation.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly sit, talk, listen, use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, stand, walk, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must drive occasionally.
  • Requires close and distance vision and colour identification.

Work Environment:

  • Classroom environment with moderate to loud noise.
  • May need to move materials between locations.

Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood education, including VPI requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff, work independently, collaborate with specialists and administrators, and design instruction and assess learning.
  • Strong decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning skills.

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with a Pre‑K endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
