We partner with the UK MOD and industry leaders to provide critical advice, develop future standards, and ensure the UK’s simulation capabilities are interoperable and effective. The Opportunity
As a Systems Architect you will act as the main technical focal point (or project engineer) for one of the key defence training and simulation programmes of the UK MOD. Day to day, you will be working closely with the MOD customer and our UK team for the provision of technical consultancy and services towards achieving the customer’s programme objectives in full.
You will leverage your military training and simulation expertise and experience to support the customer in establishing a robust technical governance framework for system testing and verification, as well as facilitating technical engagement with various stakeholders and organisations within the UK and overseas, and ultimately providing decision support towards one of the most complex and transformative training and simulation programmes of the UK MOD. The role will include regular work at the customer’s site for two to three days a week (Salisbury area).
Your work will directly influence major UK defence programmes. You will:
- Design and Champion Solutions: Architecting M&S solutions for our customers, leveraging open standards (like HLA, DIS) and modern architectural frameworks.
- Provide Expert Consultancy: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing robust decision support and technical guidance on complex simulation and training programmes.
- Drive Technical Excellence: Ensure the correct application of M&S standards, facilitate technical workshops with diverse stakeholders, and mentor others in best practice.
- Shape the Future: Contribute to the evolution of the next generation of simulation standards for the UK and globally.
- Oversee Delivery: Act as the project's technical lead, working closely with engineering teams to ensure your architectural vision is successfully delivered.
About You – What you’ll bring to the role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced professional who combines deep technical knowledge with excellent leadership and communication skills.
Essential Experience and Skills:
- A strong background (5+ years) in the development, architecture, or delivery of simulation-based training systems for defence.
- Master or Bachelor of Computer Science or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Proven experience applying the Systems Engineering lifecycle on projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
- You must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC or higher).
Desirable Skills:
- Solid appreciation of the land training domain and defence modelling and simulation standards.
- Understanding and practical experience with key interoperability standards used in Defence modelling and simulation (e.g., HLA, DIS and other SISO & NATO standards).
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools and languages like SysML or Unified Architecture Framework.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, ArchiMate).
