The successful candidate will play a critical role within our Legal & Compliance team, helping to improve and maintain our Privacy by Design and by Default programme, serving as the technical bridge between Legal & Compliance and Security teams by translating privacy by design principles into implementable privacy by default controls and specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of global privacy laws along with privacy technical skills. You will be part of the wider Legal & Compliance team, working closely with Legal & Compliance and R&D teams, and you will report to our Legal Director – Privacy, Cyber & AI.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Improve and maintain our Privacy by Design and by Default programme
  • Conduct regular privacy impact assessments (PIAs) of operational processes, identifying, and mitigating risks across the company through effective tools, training and guidance.
  • Work cross functionally with data protection, legal, cyber security, product and engineering (R&D) teams to align advanced technologies and Privacy by Design principles from the first stages of development and ensure that the data use meets established regulatory compliance needs.
  • Guide and drive the development of new privacy products, features and tools.
  • Respond to privacy incidents by conducting analysis and implementing remediation.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and data lifecycle management.
  • Keep up to date with global privacy regulations.
  • Use and implement data anonymisation, pseudonymisation and encryption protocols/techniques to develop systems that preserve and improve privacy protections.
  • Communicate program progress, escalations, and issue analysis to key stakeholders.
  • Creating KPIs to measure privacy by design programme effectiveness.
  • Developing technical privacy training for product and engineering teams.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to balance risks in ambiguous and complex situations.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, in particular in leading or contributing to global and multi-functional teams.
  • Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs).
  • Experience conducting PIAs and with PIAs methodologies.
  • Knowledge of privacy challenges in machine learning/AI.
  • Experience or understanding of software applications design tools and languages.
  • Understanding of design for software applications running on multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform operations involving large datasets.
  • Ability to champion privacy within technical discussions.
  • Skill in explaining technical privacy concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, privacy engineering or related field of study.
  • Strong software and AI development skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate designs, proposals, and results; and negotiate options at management levels.
  • 5 years' experience in privacy / data protection or a graduate degree or concentration in privacy by design engineering.
