Are you calm under pressure, compassionate, and committed to supporting young people? Join One YMCA as a Casual Accommodation Night Worker and play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming environment for 18–30 year-olds. Working overnight, you’ll ensure the safety and security of our housing services while offering reassurance and support to residents facing challenges such as homelessness, mental health issues, or difficult life transitions. Your presence will bring stability during the night, helping young people feel safe and supported as they work towards brighter futures.
As a Night Worker, you’ll be a key presence in the building overnight ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and comfort of our residents. You’ll respond to incidents, offer practical support, and help maintain a peaceful, respectful atmosphere. Your work will directly contribute to helping young people feel secure, supported, and empowered to thrive.
We are seeking compassionate, dedicated individuals with:
- Experience of working with young people with complex needs, although not necessarily in a housing context
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport and engage with a diverse range of individuals
- Good organisational abilities, capable of managing a range of tasks while remaining calm under pressure
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate as part of a team
- A positive, confident approach to managing challenging behaviour
- A solid understanding of current mental health issues and the ability to support young people in a sensitive, empathetic manner
This is a waking night role, meaning you'll be actively involved and present throughout your shift, rather than a traditional night worker role where rest periods might be expected. As a Supported Housing Officer (Nights), you’ll be working in a hostel setting, helping to ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of our residents and the site itself. Many of the people we support face complex challenges such as homelessness, mental health issues, or substance use. Your calm and supportive presence will make a real difference overnight responding to situations as they arise, monitoring the security of the building, and helping to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you and welcome your application. Join us at One YMCA and help provide safety, support, and stability overnight, making a lasting difference in the lives of young people!
