This is a waking night role, meaning you will be actively involved and present throughout your shift, rather than working in a traditional night role where rest periods might be expected. As a Supported Housing Officer (Nights), you will be based in a hostel setting, ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of residents and the site itself. Many of the people we support face complex challenges such as homelessness, mental health issues, or substance use, and your calm, supportive presence will make a real difference overnight β responding to situations as they arise, monitoring building security, and helping to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
You will bring experience of working with vulnerable client groups, along with knowledge of building safety and security, appropriate use of CCTV and database systems, and a sound understanding of Health & Safety good practice. As a Night Security Support Worker, you will be part of a growing Housing & Community staff team of approximately 200 employees across our housing sites in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire.
These roles are responsible for providing timely, efficient, and high-quality reception and night support/security. During night shifts, you will act as the first point of contact for our residents and offer a professional, welcoming service while maintaining confidentiality at all times. You will also take responsibility for the safety and security of the service and building at night, including the management of incidents and appropriate responses.
As part of a dedicated team delivering person-centred support to those who have often experienced homelessness, you will play a vital role in ensuring residents are supported 24/7 and that services run smoothly around the clock. Flexibility is essential, as hours will be worked in line with the rota and service user needs, as determined by your line manager.
This is an exciting time to join One YMCA, as we embark on an ambitious plan to grow our housing service and double our impact across accommodation sites. If you have the skills and experience to foster a culture of excellent customer service, genuine care for residents, and a strong sense of team spirit to maximise outcomes and increase impact, we welcome your application.
