Commercial Plumber / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Facilities & Environment in London

Looking for a commercial plumbing role where you can get to know the buildings you maintain and see the difference your work makes? Join Camden's in-house Facilities Management team, looking after schools, children's centres, community buildings and council workplaces across the borough.

This is a varied, hands-on role for an experienced plumber or mechanical maintenance engineer who enjoys finding the cause of a problem, making reliable repairs and taking ownership of their work. You will work across planned maintenance and reactive jobs, with a Camden vehicle for work duties and no routine out-of-hours call-out commitment.

What you will do

• Carry out planned maintenance, fault finding, repairs and minor installation work on commercial plumbing, heating, hot and cold-water and mechanical systems.
• Work on plant such as pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers, booster sets and valves, within your competence.
• Identify root causes and recommend practical remedial work that prevents repeat faults.
• Support water hygiene tasks, including TMV servicing, within your training and competence.
• Record clear job updates, findings, materials and next steps on the mobile maintenance system.
• Work safely in occupied buildings and communicate well with premises staff and the wider M&E team.
• Support and mentor a plumbing apprentice by demonstrating safe working methods, explaining tasks and checking their work as appropriate. The amount of time spent together will vary with operational needs.

What you will bring

• A recognised Level 3 qualification in plumbing, mechanical engineering or building services, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Strong practical experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance, including both planned and reactive work.
• Confidence diagnosing faults in heating, water and associated mechanical plant, and knowing when specialist help is needed.
• A full UK driving licence and the ability to work independently across Camden sites.
• Enhanced DBS required for role.
• Accurate mobile job reporting, sound safety judgement and a willingness to support an apprentice.

Experience with unvented hot water, water hygiene, BMS, basic electrical fault identification, HVAC/AHUs or public-sector estates would be useful, but you do not need every item on that list.
