Street Cleansing Operative

We are currently recruiting for a Street Cleansing Operative to join the Clean and Green Service. This is a hands-on role responsible for keeping streets, public areas and the local environment clean, safe and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled and ad-hoc street cleansing activities across the local area.
• Undertake litter picking and manual street sweeping, including the removal of debris.
• Operate pedestrian-controlled mechanical street sweepers where required.
• Remove graffiti, fly-posting, fly-tipping, weeds and other waste.
• Empty litter and dog waste bins.
• Safely collect and dispose of hazardous waste where appropriately trained.
• Use equipment such as blowers and strimmers.
• Complete vehicle, equipment and safety checks as required.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with Council policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate records, including vehicle checks, timesheets, daily work allocation records and accident/incident reports.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and other Council teams on street cleansing, grounds maintenance and waste collection activities.
• Provide a professional, customer-focused service when working in the community.
• Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the Team Manager.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience in street cleansing, waste collection, grounds maintenance, environmental services or a similar outdoor role.
• Is comfortable undertaking physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Can safely use hand tools, equipment and machinery.
• Has good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Can work independently while also being an effective team member.
• Is reliable, organised and able to manage scheduled tasks and changing priorities.
• Has good communication and customer service skills.
• Takes pride in maintaining clean and safe public spaces.
• Holds a full driving licence and is confident operating allocated vehicles, where required.

Working Environment

This is a practical, outdoor role involving regular walking, manual work and the use of vehicles, tools and equipment. You will work as part of a team while also being expected to use your own initiative when carrying out allocated duties.
