Hours: 30.5 per week: Monday 8am to 2pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 8am to 6.30pm, Friday 1pm to 6.30pm

Salary: £12.71 per hour, increasing to £12.98 after successful completion of probation. The vacancy will close when sufficient applications have been received.

Ventnor Medical Practice are looking for a Patient Advisor who will work directly for the Practice Service Lead within a broad team of professionals. Patient Advisors are the first point of contact for our patients. The role will involve optimising the patients journey by receiving, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. This role is ideal for somebody seeking development and experience in patient services and the healthcare sector.

Main duties of the job:

  • To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of Patient Advisor duties and the provision of general support to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Duties can include, but are not limited to, greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system, booking appointments, the processing of information and assisting patients as required.
  • To act as the central point of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multi-disciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers.

Job responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor the practice appointment system.
  • Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately.
  • Signpost patients to the correct service.
  • Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies.
  • Photocopy documentation as required.
  • Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary.
  • Direct requests for information, i.e., SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms to the administrative team.
  • Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient and polite manner.
  • Carry out system searches as requested.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards.
  • Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Desirable: GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above), AMSPAR Receptionist Qualification, NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience of working with the general public
  • Desirable: Experience of working in a health care setting, Experience of administrative duties

Skills:

  • Essential: Excellent communication skills (written and oral), Strong IT skills, Clear, polite telephone manner, Competent in the use of Office and Outlook, Effective time management (planning and organising), Ability to work as a team member and autonomously, Good interpersonal skills, Problem solving and analytical skills, Ability to follow policy and procedure
