An established construction contractor is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor for a major student accommodation project in Southampton. This is a primarily health & safety-focused role, but we are also very open to candidates from a strong site management background, including Site Managers, Assistant Site Managers, Foremen or General Foremen with excellent H&S knowledge.
We are looking for someone practical and hands-on, someone who understands how construction sites operate, can maintain high safety standards, and help ensure the project runs smoothly day to day.
Health & Safety Advisor Key Responsibilities:- Promote and maintain a strong health & safety culture on site
- Conduct site inspections, audits and safety walks
- Identify and address unsafe acts or working practices
- Review RAMS, permits and safe systems of work
- Ensure compliance with HSE and company procedures
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings
- Investigate incidents / near misses and implement improvements
- Work closely with site teams and subcontractors to maintain safe, efficient operations
- Strong construction site experience
- Excellent practical H&S knowledge
- Confident managing and challenging subcontractors when required
- Good understanding of site logistics and daily operations
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- NEBOSH (preferred)
- SMSTS / SSSTS
- CSCS Card
- First Aid / IOSH beneficial
This role would suit an experienced H&S Advisor or a Site Manager / Foreman looking to move into a more safety-led position. Our client is open to offering either a contract or permanent position which is an excellent opportunity to join a well-regarded contractor with a strong pipeline of work and long-term progression available.
