An established residential groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Estimator to join their team in Southampton. Working predominantly with leading residential developers and housebuilders, the business delivers groundworks and infrastructure packages across new-build housing developments throughout the South. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the earlier stages of their estimating career who is looking to develop within residential groundworks, working closely with and reporting directly to the Managing Estimator. Assistant Estimator – The Role You will support the Managing Estimator throughout the tendering and pre-construction process, gradually taking on greater responsibility as your experience develops. Typical responsibilities will include: * Assisting with the preparation of tenders for residential groundworks packages * Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation * Undertaking quantity take-offs and assisting with measurements * Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations * Supporting the preparation of competitive tender submissions * Assisting with pricing labour, plant and material requirements * Identifying potential risks and opportunities within tender information * Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and the wider commercial team * Maintaining accurate tender information and cost records * Supporting the Managing Estimator through tender reviews and submissions Projects will predominantly involve residential groundworks and associated infrastructure, including roads and sewers, drainage, foundations, external works and associated civils packages. Assistant Estimator – The Candidate The ideal candidate will have some previous experience within groundworks, civil engineering or construction and be looking to develop their career within estimating. Applications would be particularly welcomed from: * Assistant Estimators with residential groundworks experience * Junior Estimators looking for greater exposure and development * Candidates from a groundworks commercial background looking to specialise in estimating * Individuals with practical residential groundworks knowledge and a strong commercial aptitude You should be comfortable working with drawings and figures, have good attention to detail and, most importantly, have the willingness to learn and develop under an experienced Managing Estimator.
