An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to join an established and growing civil engineering contractor based in the Scunthorpe area. The business delivers complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK, working alongside major Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors as well as delivering projects directly for private-sector clients. With a strong reputation for technically challenging projects, the company operates across reinforced concrete, groundworks, highways, drainage, infrastructure and specialist coastal and marine works. Projects range considerably in size and complexity, providing the successful Estimator with exposure to a varied pipeline of work. Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with an Estimator who can take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and successful handover. Estimator – The Role Working closely with the wider commercial and operational teams, you will be responsible for preparing competitive and commercially robust tenders across a range of civil engineering projects. Typical responsibilities will include: * Reviewing tender opportunities and Invitations to Tender * Preparing and managing tenders from initial enquiry through to submission * Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation * Attending site visits to understand project requirements and constraints * Producing preliminary method statements, safety plans and programmes where required * Preparing and issuing subcontractor enquiries * Liaising with the buying, plant and accounts teams to establish accurate material, plant and labour costs * Assessing subcontractor and supplier quotations * Attending internal tender adjudication meetings with the Commercial Team * Preparing and submitting tenders to clients and relevant portals * Completing PQQs and maintaining client framework information * Supporting commercial negotiations throughout the tender process * Completing detailed handovers of successful tenders to the operational delivery team Estimator – Experience The successful candidate will ideally have previous estimating experience within civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure. Experience across reinforced concrete, formwork, rebar, drainage and general groundworks would be particularly relevant. The company is also interested in candidates who have worked across areas such as highways, piling, concrete structures, marine and coastal engineering, sea defences, beach nourishment, groynes, revetments and other technically challenging civil engineering schemes. You do not necessarily need experience across every area. A strong civil engineering background, good commercial understanding and the ability to accurately build and manage tenders will be key.
