With a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality retail and commercial environments, this is an opportunity to join a business working on some genuinely impressive projects across the UK with a particularly strong presence in Central London. Projects typically range from £300,000 to £800,000, with the business also delivering larger schemes up to approximately £3 million. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from pre-construction through to successful completion and who thrives in the fast-paced environment of retail fit-out.
About Our Client
Our client is a specialist fit-out contractor with decades of experience delivering exceptional spaces across retail, hospitality, wellness and commercial environments. Their portfolio includes high-profile projects for internationally recognised brands, with recent and previous work including H&M, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Louis Vuitton and other major retail clients. They have delivered more than 500 projects across the UK, with an extensive track record of complex Central London schemes, including flagship stores, listed buildings and projects in live trading environments. This is a business where quality, programme and client relationships genuinely matter.
As Contracts Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple fit-out projects, ensuring they are completed safely, commercially and to the high standards expected by the company's clients. You will be responsible for:
- Managing projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover
- Taking overall responsibility for programme, quality, commercial performance and delivery
- Managing and coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and site teams
- Working closely with clients, consultants, designers and project stakeholders
- Reviewing programmes and ensuring key milestones are achieved
- Managing project costs, variations, valuations and commercial performance

- Ensuring health & safety and quality standards are maintained throughout
- Attending project and client meetings
- Carrying out regular site visits and supporting site teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously where required
- Maintaining strong client relationships and supporting repeat business
A significant proportion of the projects are based in London, so regular travel to sites will be an important part of the position.
The Projects
This is predominantly a retail fit-out environment, ranging from smaller schemes around £300k through to projects approaching £3m. The work can involve far more than a traditional interior fit-out, with Powells' projects incorporating elements such as:
- Full strip-outs and refurbishment
- Structural alterations
- M&E installations
- Bespoke joinery and finishes
- Shopfronts and façade works
- Mechanical and electrical services
- High-specification interiors
- Live retail environments
- Listed and heritage buildings
- Complex Central London logistics
Recent projects have included flagship retail environments in locations such as Oxford Street, Regent Street, Kensington High Street and Westfield London, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to work on projects where quality and programme are absolutely critical.
