We are working with a well-established and growing main contractor to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking business delivering a wide range of construction projects across the South East.

Our client is a reputable design & build contractor with a strong pipeline of secured work, operating across multiple sectors including commercial, education, life sciences, and high-quality refurbishment. They deliver a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from traditional refurbishments through to complex new build design & build schemes, typically across £1m-£15m+. The business has built a strong reputation for quality, client relationships, and repeat work, with a supportive and team-oriented culture.

The Role

You will play a key role in the commercial delivery of projects, either leading schemes or supporting senior team members depending on your level. This position offers exposure across the full project lifecycle, working closely with operational teams, clients, and the wider supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading or supporting the commercial delivery of construction projects
  • Managing subcontractor accounts from enquiry through to final account
  • Working closely with project teams to ensure costs are controlled in line with budgets
  • Managing applications for payment, valuations, and variations
  • Supporting or leading financial reporting and attending regular review meetings
  • Contributing to design development and value engineering processes
  • Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution
  • Mentoring Assistant Quantity Surveyors and trainees (where applicable)
  • Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners

Requirements

  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction processes
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills
  • Proactive, team-oriented approach with a strong work ethic
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to new systems and software
  • Relevant qualification (Degree, MCIOB, MRICS or similar preferred)

Experience

  • Experience working for a main contractor on construction projects
  • Demonstrable experience delivering projects commercially
  • Good working knowledge of JCT contracts (NEC beneficial)
  • Experience across both design & build and traditional projects
  • Exposure to or experience with two-stage procurement
  • Cost planning experience
