An established construction and development contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Buyer to join its commercial team based in Ringwood.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business delivering a diverse range of residential developments, care home schemes and refurbishment projects.

Working within a close-knit commercial team, you'll gain exposure to both quantity surveying and procurement, playing an important role in the successful commercial delivery of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you'll receive ongoing support while developing your commercial knowledge within a business that offers genuine long-term career progression.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Buyer Job Description As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Buyer, you'll support both the procurement and commercial functions across multiple construction projects.

From sourcing subcontractors and materials through to assisting with valuations, cost reporting and final accounts, you'll become involved throughout the full project lifecycle, helping to ensure projects are delivered on programme, within budget and to the highest standards.

The position is primarily office-based in Ringwood, with regular visits to live construction sites.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Buyer Key Responsibilities

Procuring subcontractors and construction materials.

Preparing and issuing tender enquiries and contract documentation.

Obtaining competitive quotations and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors.

Processing subcontract orders and purchase orders.

Assisting with valuations, subcontract payments, variations and final accounts.

Supporting the commercial management of projects throughout the construction lifecycle.

Monitoring project costs, budgets and contributing to monthly commercial reporting.

Maintaining procurement schedules, commercial records and workload trackers.

Issuing the latest drawings and technical information to subcontractors and suppliers.

Attending commercial and project meetings.

Visiting construction sites to monitor progress and ensure procurement aligns with programme requirements.

Ensuring compliance with company procedures and commercial processes.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Buyer Candidate Criteria We're keen to speak with candidates who already have experience within a construction buying, quantity surveying or commercial support environment.

This role would suit someone currently working as an: Assistant Quantity Surveyor Assistant Buyer Construction Buyer Commercial Assistant Trainee Quantity Surveyor (with relevant experience) You'll ideally have: Experience within a construction buying, procurement or commercial role.

Knowledge of subcontract procurement and material purchasing.

An understanding of subcontract administration and construction contracts.

Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Excellent organisation and attention to detail.

A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline (or currently working towards one) would be advantageous.
