As a Building & Fire Safety Officer, you will be expected to:
- Support the delivery of a safe, compliant and well-managed housing portfolio.
- Work closely with the Building Safety and Compliance Manager, providing expert advice on building and fire safety, undertaking inspections and audits, overseeing safety-related projects, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Play a key role in resident engagement, risk management and continuous improvement, helping to maintain the highest standards of safety across our properties.
- Commit to equality and diversity and promote non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of work undertaken.
- Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act to take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.
To be successful in a Building & Fire Safety Officer role, the skills you will need:
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, including business use insurance.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours working where required.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and undertaking relevant qualifications.
- Extensive knowledge of building safety and fire safety legislation, regulations, standards and guidance, including Building Regulations, British Standards, the Building Safety Act, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
- Strong understanding of building construction, maintenance and fire/building safety risk management.
- Proven experience of building safety and fire safety management within the social housing sector.
- Ability to manage and deliver fire safety and building safety programmes, projects, audits and inspection programmes, including developing and implementing improvement plans.
- Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring building safety and fire safety policies, procedures and risk management systems.
- Managing contractors, consultants and enforcing authorities to achieve compliance and performance objectives.
- Experience of working in a high-pressure environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills, able to communicate across multiple channels including Microsoft Teams, Face to Face and Email, building effective relationships with customers, contractors, consultants, employees and external agencies.

Experience or Knowledge of the below would be advantageous but not essential:
- NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management (or equivalent).
- Relevant Building Safety, Fire Safety, Building Maintenance, Compliance or Facilities Management qualification (or equivalent).
- Membership of a relevant building safety, fire safety or health and safety professional body, or working towards membership.
- Managing fire door inspection programmes and maintaining detailed building safety information.
- Experience of budget setting, monitoring and financial control.
- Ability to prepare accurate reports, presentations and Board papers.
