To support the effective operation of the warehouse by supervising and assisting Warehouse Operatives to ensure goods are received, stored, and dispatched safely, efficiently, and in line with operational procedures. This role includes responsibility for multi-drop deliveries of Customs and Excise goods across London and the Home Counties using company-provided transport on an ad-hoc basis. The position also involves deputising for the Warehouse Director when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational control.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support Warehouse Operatives, ensuring tasks are completed safely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Provide cover for Warehouse Operatives when required and act in the Warehouse Director's absence.
- Oversee the front of house Goods In and Goods Out processes to ensure accurate and efficient stock handling and dispatch.
- Supervise the picking and checking of customer orders; ensure all stock movements are validated and errors are proactively avoided.
- Carry out multi-drop deliveries using company vehicles to customers within London and the Home Counties on an ad-hoc basis, ensuring safe and compliant handling of Customs and Excise goods.
- Motivate and organise team members to maintain high productivity and safety standards.
- Plan warehouse layout and space utilisation to optimise storage and efficient workflow.
- Ensure all stock is correctly labelled and located for quick identification and retrieval.
- Perform manual handling, including unloading deliveries, loading dispatches, re-palletising goods, and applying shrink wrap.
- Label goods in line with customer requirements (e.g. duty stamping, striping, packaging).
- Photograph goods and seal numbers during loading/unloading for verification and records.
- Check incoming and outgoing stock for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
- Maintain communication with the Goods In team to ensure accurate delivery records.
- Operate Forklift Trucks (Counterbalance/Reach) and other machinery safely and responsibly.
- Risk assess incoming goods, reporting to the Bond Office as required.
- Participate in stocktaking activities and assist in rectifying discrepancies.
- Undertake company training and obtain Permission to Operate certificates where needed.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Warehouse Director.
Skills and Qualifications
- Valid Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance and/or Reach).
- Multi-drop or van driving experience within London and surrounding regions (clean driving licence essential).
- Experience supervising and managing team members in a warehouse or logistics environment.
- Demonstrable experience in Goods In/Goods Out processes and warehouse systems.
- High attention to detail with experience inspecting goods for damage or discrepancies.
- Proficient in using handheld scanners and other warehouse technology.
- Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising accuracy or safety.
- A flexible, proactive approach and ability to work as part of a team.
- Minimum of Grade C (or 4) in GCSE English Language or equivalent qualification.
The Package
- Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm. Flexible 7am - 4pm (1 hour lunch)
