Are you highly experienced in Excel, commercially minded and looking for a stable, long-term position where you can take real ownership of your work? We are recruiting an experienced Commercial Analyst to specialise in financial modelling and pricing, managing complex, multi-year Excel models supporting long-term managed service contracts. Working closely with Commercial Finance, Account Management, Business Development and Operations, you will provide the analysis needed to support bids, contract variations and commercial decisions. This is not an accounting role. No accountancy qualification is required, and study support is not provided. This is a hands-on commercial position requiring advanced Excel skills, confidence with numbers and the ability to challenge whether information makes commercial sense.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, robust and auditable Excel financial models
- Manage multi-year models used for contract and business planning
- Gather and validate financial, operational and commercial inputs
- Review costs and challenge discrepancies or assumptions
- Support bid pricing, tenders and new business cases
- Analyse pricing, margins, deal value and contract profitability
- Update models following contract variations and revised business plans
- Maintain billing schedules, comparing actual invoices with forecasts
- Produce management information, KPIs and contract variation statistics
- Present complex financial information clearly to senior stakeholders
- Maintain accurate records and audit trails
- Take ownership of day-to-day requests and contract administration
Essential Requirements
- At least 10 years experience in a relevant or strongly transferable role
- 3 or more years UK based relevant experience
- Extensive use of Excel within a commercial environment
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas
- Experience supporting bids, tenders or new business cases
- Commercial knowledge of pricing, margins and contract profitability
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Confidence questioning assumptions and challenging information
- The ability to work independently and take tasks through to completion
- A structured, organised and deadline-focused approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A degree, ideally in a numerical, analytical, business or related subject
- The ability to attend the Theale office three to four days each week
About You
You will be mature, reliable and professional, with a stable work history and a strong sense of ownership. You will be comfortable working independently within a small team of two, while following agreed processes and deadlines. This position is likely to suit someone seeking long-term stability and responsibility, rather than using the role as a stepping-stone for rapid career progression. Candidates should live within a realistic commuting distance of Theale, Reading. Having your own transport would be advantageous.
