We are working with a growing specialist engineering company that installs, services and maintains leak detection and alarm systems across a wide range of commercial and public buildings.

This is a varied field-based role where no two days are necessarily the same.

You could be working in a university one day, a laboratory or shopping centre the next, carrying out installations, servicing equipment and fault-finding on sophisticated detection systems designed to identify leaks involving water, chemicals, hydrocarbons, solvents and gases.

The majority of the work is currently in London, but the company is growing its UK customer base, so there will also be opportunities to travel throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Full product training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer from a related trade looking to develop new specialist skills.

• Your responsibilities will include

  • Installing leak detection and alarm systems
  • Servicing and maintaining existing systems
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs
  • Testing and commissioning equipment
  • Working on customer sites across a wide range of buildings
  • Completing service reports and associated paperwork
  • Travelling to sites throughout the UK
  • Working professionally with customers and site teams
  • Following health & safety procedures and site requirements

  • Universities
  • Schools and colleges
  • Shopping centres
  • Government buildings
  • Other commercial and public-sector premises

What experience do you need?

We are looking for someone with practical experience of working within buildings, ideally from an electrical, mechanical, plumbing or building-services background.

Experience in any of the following areas could be a great fit

  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Air Conditioning
  • Security Systems, Intruder Alarms, Access Control or CCTV
  • Electrical or Mechanical Building Services
  • General Building Services / Contracting

An Electrical Level 2 or Level 3 qualification would be advantageous, as would an **18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification, although these are not essential.

You will ideally have

  • Previous experience working on commercial buildings or construction sites
  • A valid CSCS card
  • A clean driving licence
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • A practical, hands-on approach
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Be willing to spend time travelling with nights away (fully paid for)
  • Importantly, you don't need previous leak-detection experience. If you have the right engineering background, practical ability and attitude, full training will be provided.

What's on offer?

  • £45,000+ salary, depending on your level of experience
  • Company Peugeot Partner LWB
  • Paid travelling time
  • 8-hour working day including lunch break
  • Any onsite work over 8 hours is paid as overtime
  • *20 days' annual leave + Bank Holidays**
  • Your birthday off as an additional day's annual leave
  • Nest Pension
  • Full training and development opportunities
  • Genuine opportunity for progression and promotion
  • Optional overtime take as much or as little as you want
  • Growing specialist company with increasing UK-wide opportunities
  • Overtime that works around you
  • There are approximately eight evening jobs per year, with Saturday overtime available when required. There is also one Sunday job which takes place twice a year.

As the company grows, Saturday work is expected to increase, but overtime is shared between the engineering team.

If you want to earn more, there are opportunities to do so; if overtime isn't for you, you won't be expected to take on every job.
