  • Purpose of the Role

As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals to live independently by providing practical advice, guidance and tailored support across areas such as tenancy sustainment, education, employment and essential life skills.

You will work closely with residents to promote their physical and mental wellbeing, offering encouragement and sign posting to specialist services where required, including support for substance misuse.

By creating a safe, welcoming and well-maintained living environment, you will help individuals build confidence, develop independence and achieve positive, long-term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming, supportive experience for residents.
  • Manage a caseload, complete assessments, support plans and reviews.
  • Build positive relationships and deliver person-centred support.
  • Carry out health and safety checks in line with organisational policies.
  • Support residents to maintain accommodation, prevent evictions and move on successfully.
  • Maintain accurate case files and records.
  • Provide advice on welfare, housing, benefits and legal rights.
  • Support access to medical, dental and mental health services.
  • Encourage engagement with specialist substance misuse services where appropriate.
  • Develop independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, laundry and personal hygiene.
  • Support group activities and programmes.
  • Provide evening and weekend cover on a rota basis.
  • Promote equality, inclusion and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Maintain accurate database records for monitoring and reporting.
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Build effective relationships with partner agencies.
  • Support communications and promotional activities where required.
  • Maintain GDPR, data protection and confidentiality standards.
  • Support timely housing benefit claims and service charge collection.
  • Assist with housing benefit applications and tenancy matters.
  • Ensure properties are safe, secure and well maintained, promoting positive community relations.

What you’ll need?

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Health & Social Care, Housing, Information, Advice & Guidance or a related qualification (Desirable).

Experience

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practice relating to vulnerable people (Desirable).
  • Experience applying Health & Safety guidance (Desirable).
  • Minimum six months' experience dealing with the public face-to-face, by telephone or email (Desirable).

Skills & Attributes

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations (Desirable).
  • Competent IT skills including email, internet and database systems (Desirable).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team (Desirable).
  • Patient, polite and professional (Essential).
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a shared rota (Essential).
