We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will be working in a fast paced retail environment where no day is the same.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring all decisions benefit customers, colleagues, and everyone’s safety
  • Serve as the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day‑to‑day operational queries
  • Support the Store Manager with seasonal, community and charity events, creating a great inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented
  • Prioritise the replenishment of products that matter to our customers
  • Maintain point of sale and shelf edge labels to reflect quality standards
  • Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent recurrences
  • Proactively manage queues to deliver a great shopping trip for customers
  • Coordinate colleagues, ensuring they deliver daily priorities and have their breaks at the right time around trade patterns
  • Stay knowledgeable about the store, coordinating others to implement practical improvement actions
  • Follow company health and safety routines and encourage colleagues to do the same
  • Deliver communication to the team, keeping them well informed
  • Identify and share ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager
  • Always put the customer first in all decisions and actions
  • Be readily available to resolve customer queries, leaving them with a smile
  • Adjust service to meet each customer’s needs
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues who provide great service
  • Identify obstacles to delivering great service and help remove them
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager, or appropriately escalated them to the Manager
  • Ensure the store is staffed appropriately, reacting to short‑term absences and sickness by finding cover for shifts
  • Serve as a recognised Keyholder, attending alarm call‑outs to ensure store safety and security
  • Monitor internal communications, ensuring messages are acted upon promptly and colleagues remain informed
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet customer needs and store operations, feeding back to the Store Manager any shop‑floor issues
  • Balance time across service and replenishment areas of the store
  • Support the Store Manager in managing absence, ensuring return‑to‑work interviews and absence triggers are handled in line with policy
  • Build meaningful relationships with the Area Manager & People Partner, escalating relevant issues in a timely manner
  • If this store has a Post Office Local, perform day‑to‑day Post Office operations, requiring a Post Office financial and criminal background check
