We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast‑paced retail environment where no day is the same. You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean, full store that exceeds customer expectations. Customer service is at the heart of everything we do, so you will continuously look for ways to improve service through on‑the‑job coaching and feedback. You will be the specialist in delivering practical actions for store improvement, ensuring the store remains a safe place to work and shop.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the team to deliver an easy shopping experience.
- Open/close the store, complete duty cover and make decisions that protect customers, colleagues, and safety.
- Serve as the go‑to person for colleagues when the Store Manager is absent, handling day‑to‑day operational queries.
- Support the Store Manager with seasonal, community and charity events.
- Maintain store cleanliness, presentation, and product replenishment.
- Ensure point‑of‑sale and shelf edge labels are accurate.
- Manage overcharges, queues and staff breaks effectively.
- Communicate with the team and keep them well informed.
- Identify and abolish obstacles to outstanding customer service.
- Resolve colleague questions or escalate them appropriately.
- Ensure adequate staffing and manage short‑term absences.
- Act as a keyholder and attend alarm call‑outs as required.
- Monitor and respond to internal communications.
- Balance service and replenishment priorities.
- Support the Store Manager in managing staff absence and return‑to‑work interviews.
- Build relationships with Area Manager and People Partner.
- Handle Post Office duties if the store contains a Post Office Local (requires a criminal conviction background check).
