You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations, and continually look for ways to improve service through on‑the‑job coaching and feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
  • Open and close the store, ensuring all decisions protect customers, colleagues, and safety.
  • Act as the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day‑to‑day operational queries.

  • Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented.
  • Prioritise the replenishment of products that matter to customers.
  • Maintain point‑of‑sale and shelf‑edge labels that reflect best practice.
  • Address overcharges immediately and prevent recurrence.
  • Manage queues proactively to deliver a great shopping experience.
  • Coordinate colleagues’ breaks and daily priorities to match trade patterns.
  • Use your store knowledge to guide practical improvement actions.
  • Follow company health and safety routines and ensure others do the same.
  • Communicate clearly with the team and keep them well informed.
  • Identify and share ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager.
  • Always put the customer first, tailoring service to meet their needs.
  • Resolve customer queries promptly, leaving them with a smile.
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues who deliver great service.
  • Identify and remove obstacles that hinder service delivery.
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager, or escalated them appropriately.
  • Staff the store suitably, finding cover for shifts during short‑term absences.
  • Act as a recognised Keyholder, attending alarm call‑outs to ensure safety and security.
  • Respond to internal communications, ensuring messages are actioned timely.
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and operational needs, feeding back to the Store Manager about issues.
  • Balance time across service and replenishment areas.
  • Support the Store Manager in managing absenteeism, including return‑to‑work interviews for CSA colleagues and reporting absence triggers.
  • Build relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner, escalating issues in a timely manner and seeking in‑moment coaching when needed.

If this store has a Post Office Local, duties will include the day‑to‑day operations of the post office and passing a required background check.
