The Storage Tank Inspectors/NDT Technicians are responsible for conducting thorough inspections and assessments of above-ground flat-bottomed storage tanks, performing and coordinating required non-destructive testing, preparing detailed reports, and ensuring all work is completed in line with recognised safety procedures and inspection schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct examination of storage tanks as per inspection plans and schemes.
  • Undertake and/or oversee required non-destructive testing (NDT) activities for inspections.
  • Coordinate third-party NDT providers when extensive or specialist techniques are required.
  • Assess and grade defects identified during inspections and assist in determining appropriate remedial actions or recommendations.
  • Assist in specifying and coordinating repairs.
  • Prepare and issue inspection reports and certificates, including photographs, NDT reports, and assessment calculations.
  • Liaise with client contacts regarding inspection planning and execution.
  • Work strictly in accordance with recognised safe systems of work, including permit to work (PTW), risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and confined space entry (CSE) procedures.

Requirements:

  • An engineering technical qualification such as ONC, HNC, NVQ Level 4, BTech, or an engineering degree.
  • Desired: EEMUA 159 tank assessor/inspector certification; API 653 may also be considered.
  • Opportunity for training and support toward EEMUA 159 certification.
  • NDT certifications in UT and surface flaw detection (PT, MT); PCN or similar certifications are advantageous.
  • Mechanical engineering background with an understanding of engineering principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
  • Confidence to make and defend difficult decisions.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ambition to learn, progress, and develop professionally.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites across the UK, with occasional overseas assignments when required.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes and NDT methods is desirable.
  • Experience in the chemical and/or oil & gas industries is desirable.

Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (overtime available). Bonus scheme based on company profits and personal targets. Excellent health and life insurance.
