The RT Technician Level II performs non‑destructive testing (NDT) inspections on structures, pipelines, and other components using radiographic and related inspection methods. The role involves conducting inspections in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures, identifying material defects, operating and calibrating inspection equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation. The technician also supports safe operations, provides guidance to assistants, and contributes to maintaining quality and safety standards in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct non‑destructive testing of components and materials in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, procedures, and equipment utilization requirements.
- Perform inspections using appropriate NDT methods including gamma radiography, x‑ray radiography, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, leak testing, and visual inspections.
- Select, prepare, load, calibrate, and operate equipment used in the testing of materials and products.
- Identify defects in materials using appropriate testing techniques.
- Complete documentation and work orders following established protocols and required timelines.
- Drive company vehicles and maintain a safe driving record.
- Provide instruction to assigned assistants and ensure the safety of the inspection team.
- Perform general cleaning and minor maintenance duties on company vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect equipment and maintain shop areas in a clean, orderly, and functional condition.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated NDT skill, knowledge, or experience.
- Expertise in multiple NDT methods and willingness to continue learning and applying new techniques.
- Intermediate mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide instruction to others.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and insurability through PROtect, LLC insurance carrier.
- Certification in one or more of the following NDT methods: RT, UTT, MT, or PT.
- TWIC card preferred.
- Ability to work demanding and flexible schedules, including shifts up to 16 hours and short‑notice call‑outs.
- Ability to travel long distances and remain on site for extended periods when required.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds on uneven terrain and occasionally exert force up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle equipment, stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme cold or heat.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, electrical components, and chemical exposures.
- Visual acuity required for inspection tasks.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and willingness to follow and promote safety procedures.
