The NDT General Manager leads the Inspection Qualification Services business unit, overseeing the independent qualification of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) procedures, personnel, and equipment for critical safety sectors, including nuclear and defence. The role combines leadership, technical expertise, and business management to establish and grow the business unit while ensuring compliance with ISO 17020 requirements. The General Manager also supports business development, accreditation activities, stakeholder engagement, and the delivery of high-quality inspection qualification services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Inspection Qualification Services business unit.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a specialist technical team delivering inspection qualification activities.
  • Ensure all work is performed independently and impartially in accordance with ISO 17020 requirements.
  • Balance technical expertise with effective business and operational management.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and grow the business by identifying new opportunities and engaging with industry.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compliant inspection qualification services.
  • Manage and develop technical staff in line with company values and organisational requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) team to establish, implement, and maintain the management system.
  • Support ISO 17020 accreditation activities, including engagement with auditors and resolution of non-conformances.
  • Review incoming work to ensure sufficient capability and capacity to meet customer requirements.
  • Monitor project delivery to ensure work is completed safely, effectively, and to the required quality standards.
  • Ensure facilities, equipment, and working environments are suitable for inspection qualification activities.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of new business through collaboration with customers, business development teams, and other business units.
  • Remain flexible to business needs and support the team during periods of high workload.
  • Travel within the UK and overseas as required to support customer interactions and business activities.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and management capability within inspection qualification or related technical services.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
  • Experience working within highly regulated industries, including critical safety sectors such as nuclear and defence.
  • Experience operating in accordance with ISO 17020 requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage technical teams while maintaining technical credibility.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
