Friends International (FI) is an evangelical mission agency dedicated to supporting and equipping churches to reach international students for Christ. We currently have 80 staff working in 35 university towns and cities across the UK and Ireland. Are you challenged by the God-given opportunity to reach unreached nations on our doorstep? Do you have a calling to befriend international students, sharing the good news of Jesus with them and preparing new believers to return home?

We are seeking to recruit an Apprentice Staff Worker to enable our ministry in Stirling to develop. Reporting to the Centre Team Leader, your role will depend on gifts and experience, but it will include frontline ministry with students, mobilising and training volunteers, liaising with churches, and organising events and activities.

Friends International is investing in the Apprentice Staff Worker programme to enable those with good potential to gain training, mentoring and experience towards the full Staff Worker role. This opportunity is a 2-year personalised programme of level-appropriate training alongside ministry engagement. It would be a full-time (35 hours per week) salaried post (£23,132 per annum), and we commit to contributing some 'seed-funding' to help you raise the necessary funding.

We are seeking someone who is:

  • Passionate about intercultural mission, with experience of developing relationships/friendships across cultures
  • With foundational evangelism and discipleship experience/skills, keen to learn and grow in ministry
  • A team player able to take some leadership responsibilities
  • With good interpersonal skills
  • Self-disciplined and able to organise a personal schedule
  • Educated to degree level or its equivalent
  • Able to communicate well in English
  • Committed to the life of a local church
  • Trusting God to provide, willing to actively seek funds through financial partners (churches and individuals)

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week). Salary: £23,132 p.a. pro rata. With training and support, the post holder will raise the costs of salary, employment, training and work-related costs by developing a network of personal prayer and financial partners (churches and individuals).

To apply, please email your CV and covering letter to: Diane Smith, recruitment@friendsinternational.uk. Your cover letter should include specific examples of any student ministry experience you have, especially in a cross-cultural context, and any experience of raising money to fund your Christian ministry. Applications will be considered as we receive them. A local recruiting manager may contact you for an informal conversation before asking you to complete a formal application form.

NB. For candidates with sufficient international student ministry experience, we would consider the option of appointing at the Staff Worker level.
