Trinity-Henleaze United Reformed Church is a vibrant congregation seeking to actively serve the wider community at the heart of Henleaze, North Bristol. Our accessible and updated buildings offer many spaces used for church events and a diverse and growing range of local groups with many regular bookings and occasional hirers.

In 2025 we undertook a year long review of our Church in a project called ‘Forging the Future’. One of the recommendations from this review was to create a new position of a paid Church and community outreach worker.

We are looking to appoint an individual explicitly charged with helping us develop fresh ways to engage and share our Christian faith with the community by taking time to build wider relationships and local networks. This person should be a pioneer and a catalyst for innovations in our outreach. The person appointed will have the space and freedom to be creative, to experiment, identify opportunities and run with them. Where we already have potential partnerships they would take a lead in developing such links. There will be support for the role through a suitable network of people, including the Minister, Elders and the Church congregation.

Role Responsibilities are to:

  • Develop fresh ways to engage with the community of Henleaze and those using the Church premises
  • Build wider and deeper relationships and local networks in the community
  • Be a catalyst for innovations in our outreach and evangelism – trying new initiatives, identifying opportunities and running with them
  • Research what is currently available from the Churches around Trinity-Henleaze and identify gaps.
  • Explore potential initiatives with organisations such as: Renew Wellbeing, Flamingo Chicks, Later Life Alliance and others.
  • Be an active member of the worshipping community at Trinity-Henleaze URC
  • Maintain relevant records, preserving confidentiality and compliance with UK Data Protection requirements and our Safeguarding Procedures.
  • Support the Minister and Elders with any other relevant tasks required on an occasional basis
  • Attend Elders meetings as required and provide regular feedback
  • Liaise with other staff at the Church when appropriate.

It is an occupational requirement that this post should be filled by a Christian.

Applicants should have the right to work and reside in the UK. The church does not sponsor work visas and does not hold a Home Office Sponsorship Licence.

Employment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory references and to an enhanced DBS check. There will be a probationary period of six months.

The interview process may include exercises to assess candidates’ suitability.
