The Deputy Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring high standards of care, and supporting the team in providing a safe, nurturing environment for children and young people. Key tasks include managing staff performance, compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining accurate records, and assisting in care planning. As a full-time on-site role based in Newcastle, CA, the Deputy Manager will play an integral role in delivering One Step Care’s mission and values.
Qualifications
- Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to support and develop staff effectively
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices, child protection policies, and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
- Experience in residential care and working with children and young people
- Ability to handle administrative tasks, including record-keeping, reporting, and care planning
- Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Childcare, or a related field
- Flexibility to work varying hours as required
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and emotional well-being is a plus
Duties
- To support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with the company Policy and Procedures and meeting all OFSTED regulations.
- To manage the home in the absence of the Registered Manager and be on a rostered on-call system.
- Work within a shift pattern to provide quality care to our young people and support the Registered Manager.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare and development of the young people at all times.
- To ensure that the home meets the individual needs of the young people as well as the needs of the group.
- To support the management team through duties such as: supervisions and staff development plans.
- To ensure that the home provides an environment that is safe and sensitive to the needs of the young people being looked after.
- To support the manager and team to ensure that the admission of the young people to the home is welcoming and reflects the expectations of the care plan.
- To support the manager and the team to ensure that the young person’s stay complies with the ethos of the company and the care plan.
- To work with the manager and team towards the most positive outcomes for our young people.
- To be instrumental in overseeing the development, monitoring and implementation of the individual young people’s care plans, Behaviour Management Plans and Risk Assessments.
- To support the manager in ensuring care plans are regularly reviewed by key workers.
Applicants must have
- An NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare or equivalent and be willing to work towards an NVQ Level 5 in Residential Childcare.
- Experience of supervising staff in a care role for at least 1 year
- Experience working with children/young people in a Residential Childcare setting for at least 2 years
- Knowledge of the Children’s Home Regulations and Ofsted requirements
- Have a passion for care
- Have a passion in supporting the progression of staff
- Evidence of excellent organisational skills
- A full, UK driving licence
