Who we are

One Small Thing was founded in 2014 by prison philanthropist Lady Edwina Grosvenor, in response to the unacceptable levels of suicide, self-harm and violence within women’s prisons in England, with the aim of achieving wholesale system change across the justice system, one small thing at a time. Our name reflects the value of those small things – empathy, compassion, respect – and their combined power to make a big difference to the individual - and to society as a whole. Hope Street is an exciting, brand-new, purpose-built residential community-based service, designed in collaboration with women, for justice-involved women and their children in Hampshire. Trauma-informed by design, it will offer a safe and supportive environment where women and their children can access education, practical and therapeutic support and activities that build confidence, self-esteem and skills, and provide the opportunity to build a fulfilling and happy life and play a meaningful role within society.

About the role

Are you passionate about creating life changing opportunities for women affected by the justice system? Do you enjoy building genuine connections and helping others feel seen, heard, and understood? If so, this could be the perfect role for you. As Referral and Engagement Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in supporting women as they begin their journey with Hope Street. You’ll help ensure they are welcomed with clarity, compassion, and care, and contribute to thoughtful, collaborative decisions around referrals. You’ll also be actively involved in strengthening external relationships, raising awareness of our work across the justice, housing, and community sectors, and helping to grow referrals from a wide range of partners. This role is vital in helping us reach more women who could benefit from the unique support offered at Hope Street, and in ensuring our referral pathways remain responsive, inclusive, and trauma-informed. You’ll need to be calm, resilient and grounded in your approach, able to navigate a fast-paced environment while offering consistent, compassionate support to others. You’ll be part of a dedicated team working to challenge the status quo and create safer, more hopeful futures for women and their children. This post is restricted to women due to the nature of the role. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. A requirement of this role will be to have a driving licence, access to your own vehicle and hold business car insurance.
