At One of Us, our FX Leads develop and implement complex effects of a creative nature. They work closely with the HOD, supervisors and are expected to mentor FX Artists on their project. They must be well versed in all domains of FX with added generalist knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Creative & Technical Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of FX artists, providing constructive feedback and guidance to help them develop their skills.
- Work closely with the Head of FX, CG and VFX Supervisor to interpret creative briefs and translate them into effective and efficient FX solutions.
- Assist Artists in implementing notes and improving their setups.
- Develop and implement complex simulations and effects.
- Ensure all FX shots meet the highest artistic and technical standards, adhering to pipelines and deadlines.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve technical issues related to FX production.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of the FX pipeline and tools, working with the Head of FX and pipeline teams.
- Establish best practices and workflows for the FX sequences to optimize efficiency and quality.
- Assist Supervisors and production with shot breakdown and scheduling for FX sequences.
- Participate in regularly scheduled catch ups with the FX Head of Department to share progress on the FX production.
- Flag concerns with the FX Head of Department where necessary, be it resources, performance of artists or wider production concerns.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments, including Animation, Lighting, Compositing, and Rigging, to ensure seamless integration of FX elements.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with the CG Supervisor, VFX Supervisor, and production team regarding progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Participate in dailies and reviews, presenting work and addressing feedback.
What we are looking for
- Experience as senior FX or lead FX Artist having demonstrated ability to convincingly create a wide range of realistic and stylized effects.
- Expert proficiency in Houdini.
- Strong understanding of physics, dynamics, and natural phenomena.
- Solid understanding of rendering pipelines and optimization for FX.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for tool development and automation is a significant plus.
- Solid understanding of renderers used in the studio i.e, Mantra, Arnold and Solaris.
- Experience with relevant software like Maya and other applications related to FX.
- Excellent artistic eye and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
