About the Company
We are an established FCA-regulated financial services business providing international payment services for over 20 years.
We are looking for an experienced, hands‑on Senior Bookkeeper or Accountant to strengthen our Finance team, with a focus on General Ledger integrity, balance sheet reconciliations and month‑end accounting.
We welcome candidates with strong practical accounting experience, whether or not they hold formal professional qualifications.
The Role
Working closely with our experienced Fractional Head of Finance and Finance Operations colleagues, you will help ensure that our General Ledger is accurate, complete and supported by clear reconciliations and documentation.
Our established in‑house team handles routine invoice entry and document processing. Your focus will be on reviewing accounting records, investigating discrepancies, preparing adjustments and delivering reliable month‑end information.
This is primarily a hands‑on accounting role. You should be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of issues and meeting agreed deadlines.
As you demonstrate strong accounting knowledge, sound judgement and reliability, there may be opportunities to coordinate day‑to‑day Finance activities, including providing operational leadership during the Fractional Head of Finance’s absence. Senior finance support will remain available for complex technical matters, financial oversight and reporting review.
Key Responsibilities

Investigate reconciliation differences and help resolve historical accounting discrepancies.
Maintain clear supporting schedules, documentation and audit trails.
Month-End & Reporting

Prepare draft monthly management accounts and supporting reports for senior finance review.
Explain material balance movements, unusual transactions and unresolved items.
Support VAT work, year‑end accounts preparation and external audits.
Work with transaction‑processing and Finance Operations colleagues to resolve accounting discrepancies.
Improve accounting procedures, reconciliation templates and month‑end checklists.
Identify practical improvements to financial controls and escalat material issues promptly.
Communicate progress clearly and follow outstanding matters through to resolution.
About You
At least three years of relevant practical accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Strong understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping and General Ledger accounting.
Practical experience preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and accounting adjustments.
Ability to prepare balance sheet reconciliations independently and investigate discrepancies.
Experience supporting month‑end close and preparing or contributing to monthly management accounts.
Confidence reviewing a Trial Balance and identifying unusual or incorrect balances.
Good Excel skills, including PivotTables and lookup functions.
A methodical approach, attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with colleagues.
AAT Level 4, part‑qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with SAP Business One or a similar accounting system.
Multi‑currency accounting and intercompany reconciliation experience.
Experience in financial services, payments or another regulated environment.
Exposure to VAT, external audits and statutory accounts.
Experience improving accounting processes or coordinating accounting tasks.
Professional qualifications are welcome but not essential. We value proven practical experience, sound accounting knowledge and reliable delivery.
What We Offer
Discretionary annual performance bonus based on individual and company performance.
Company life insurance, currently providing £100,000 of cover.
A permanent role in an established business, with meaningful ownership of accounting work.
Support and guidance from an experienced Fractional Head of Finance.
Opportunities to develop broader accounting, reporting, financial control and coordination responsibilities.
A collaborative working environment within a small, experienced team.
The position is initially office‑based in Ealing, West London. Flexible or hybrid working arrangements may be considered after successful completion of probation, subject to business requirements and individual performance.
