We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and dedicated team at Minehead Medical Centre. This is a key role within the Practice, supporting clinicians and helping to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of patient care. You will work as part of a close-knit administrative team in a welcoming, community-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely typing of referral letters, including urgent referrals and GP dictations
  • Managing patient and service-related enquiries and liaising with internal and external providers
  • Using digital dictation software and the NHS eReferral (Choose & Book) system
  • Summarising and coding relevant information from patients’ clinical records in line with Practice protocols
  • Maintaining patient records and files, managing telephone calls and supporting general office procedures
  • You may also be required to provide occasional reception cover during periods of leave, sickness or increased demand
  • You will project a professional, positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, whether in person or over the telephone

About You / Qualifications

  • We are looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused and confident working in a busy healthcare environment
  • You will ideally have:
  • Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or within NHS / General Practice
  • Experience using EMIS and the NHS eReferral system (Choose & Book)
  • Experience with digital dictation systems (e.g. Lexacom)
  • Strong administrative skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, patient-centred approach
