About the role
You’ll support One Manchester’s Building Safety Team in ensuring compliance across Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) and other in-scope properties. Manage a portfolio of buildings, supporting Building Safety Managers with risk management, safety compliance, resident engagement, and statutory requirements. This role requires knowledge of building and fire safety legislation, strong organisational skills, and a customer-focused approach.
What you’ll be doing
- Support the delivery of the Building Safety Plan and manage building safety activities across a designated portfolio.
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, risk assessments, and compliance checks relating to fire, structural, and building safety.
- Maintain safety management systems and the "Golden Thread" of building information.
- Coordinate consultants, monitor change control processes, and support building improvement programmes.
- Assist with Building Safety Cases, Building Assessment Certificate applications, and regulatory compliance.
- Engage with residents, regulators, emergency services, and other stakeholders on building safety matters.
- Monitor incidents, resident feedback, and mandatory occurrence reporting, ensuring lessons learned are implemented.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver building safety requirements, maintain evidence, and support governance reporting.
- Contribute to policy development, training programmes, emergency planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay up to date with legislation, best practice, and professional development requirements.
What we’re looking for
We’re after someone who has:
- Relevant qualification in construction, fire safety, or health and safety, with a Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management (or willingness to achieve it).
- Strong knowledge of UK building and fire safety legislation, including the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety regulations.
- Experience in building safety, risk management, inspections, fire safety, structural compliance, and health and safety.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to use building safety management systems.
- Ideally experienced within social housing and managing HRB compliance requirements.
- Ability to influence stakeholders, drive improvements, and uphold One Manchester’s values and standards.
- Customer-focused, collaborative, professional, and committed to continuous improvement.
We know that great services start with great people. That’s why we’re committed to creating a workplace where colleagues feel supported, valued and able to grow. Alongside meaningful work and opportunities to develop, you’ll also benefit from:
- 27 days’ annual leave when you join us, rising to 30 days after three years’ service, plus UK bank holidays.
- The option to buy or sell annual leave through our holiday scheme.
- A genuine approach to agile and flexible working, dependent on the role.
- An excellent pension scheme with an 11.4% employer contribution through the Smart SHPS DC salary sacrifice scheme.
- Supportive people policies that help you balance work and life.
- Medicash healthcare cash plan membership, with Level 1 cover paid by us.
- A 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
- Perkbox, our benefits platform giving you access to hundreds of discounts, benefits and wellbeing resources.
- A Cycle to Work scheme through Halfords.
- Access to Manchester Credit Union for affordable financial support, including loans, savings accounts and money guidance.
- Support to gain professional qualifications, with paid memberships fees for relevant professional bodies.
