Pharmacy Assistant

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, based in Ashford, Kent, is looking for an experienced Pharmacy Assistant to join our friendly team on a FlexiBank working arrangement.

As our Pharmacy Assistant you should meet the following criteria:

  • Have or working towards NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Previous stock control experience
  • Experience in dealing with the public

Please note: this is a FlexiBank role working on an \’as and when required\’ basis; you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff during periods of annual leave or absence.

Reporting to the Clinical Pharmacist, as our Pharmacy Assistant, you will assist in the efficient economical running of the pharmacy service, including:

  • The maintenance of defined stock levels of pharmaceutical products in wards and departments, including Pharmacy.
  • Ordering and receiving drugs from various suppliers to ensure Pharmacy stock is available for TTA, Outpatient and Stock supply.
  • Assisting the Pharmacy Technician in labelling and dispensing items when needed.

You will work closely with the Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician to assist in delivering an excellent clinical service to ward patients.

The successful Pharmacy Assistant will be able to evidence the following skills and experience:

Qualifications

  • General education qualifications including GCSE (A-C) Maths, English & Science or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Experience

  • Previous stock control experience
  • Experience in dealing with the public

Main Responsibilities include:

  • To assist with the computerised and physical distribution of pharmaceutical products to all clients and departments, (including internal pharmacy requisitions) ensuring documentation is completed appropriately.
  • To provide a professional and courteous service to patients and hospital staff attending the dispensary.
  • To assist with the organisation and filing of appropriate documentation.
  • To assist with the ward/departmental topping up system to ensure that appropriate pharmaceutical products are available for use by relevant health care personnel, and ensuring these are processed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure stock is received, stored and used for replenishment as appropriate.
  • To be involved in stock rotation, cycle counts and routine expiry date checks within Pharmacy and all departments of the hospital
  • To help organise the fluid store and ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained
  • To assist in the disposal of medications where necessary as per the hospital policy
  • To assist the Pharmacy Technician with the preparation and maintenance of the contents of all resuscitation and special emergency boxes.
  • To assist with labelling and dispensing medication under the supervision of the Pharmacy Technician and Clinical Pharmacist.
