One Ashford Hospital, part of the Phoenix Hospital Group, has an exciting opportunity for a Hospital Porter with a passion for customer service to join our friendly Front of House team.

Please note: this is a FlexiBank role working on an \’as and when required\’ basis; you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff during periods of annual leave or absence.

As our Hospital Porter, you will provide an efficient, courteous, welcoming service to accommodate the needs of all patients and visitors to the hospital, across all departments.

You will be patient focused with a desire to deliver the highest levels of customer service. This role is ideal for someone who has worked front of house in a hospitality or retail environment. Experience in a health care setting is advantageous but not essential.

Hours: FlexiBank shifts as required, Monday to Saturday.

Shifts: Rotational 06:00 to 14:00 and 11:00 to 19:00

Your main duties as Hospital Porter will include:

Assisting with the day to day running of the hospital, within your remit as porter. The key roles and responsibilities of the job are inclusive, but not restricted to:

  • Admitting patients to the ward and helping them to settle in and feel welcome.

Follow up care

  • Transporting patients for X-rays from the Ward post-op to the Imaging department
  • Assisting with discharge
  • Transferring patients from our Day Surgery Unit on to the Ward
  • Checking clinical waste in all areas throughout the day,
  • Ensuring there is enough storage for clinical waste, and escalating if there are any issues
  • Ensuring correct PPE is always worn for waste handling

Events

  • Helping to set up meetings and events within the hospital

Departments

  • Assisting with deliveries/contractors within the hospital
  • Being a point of contact for any help needed in the hospital, within reasonable request.

Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent to include English and Maths.

Experience

  • Patient and customer focused
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people at all levels
  • Working within a hospital environment with a patient services background

Skills

  • Excellent communication, verbal and written
  • Able to manage and prioritise own work load based on the activity of the day
  • Able to stay calm under pressure
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Knowledge of waste management within a hospital environment

One Ashford Hospital is one of Kent\’s newest private hospitals. Patients receive fast access to appointments with specialist Consultants, diagnostic imaging and treatment for a range of health concerns. Our private hospital has been designed with the latest technology and with patient care at its heart.

In September 2023, we joined with Phoenix Hospital Group, a leading London based private healthcare group. Phoenix provide exceptional patient centred care with three state-of-the-art medical facilities in the Harley Street Medical Precinct in Central London and one in Chelmsford, Essex.

One Ashford is next door to the William Harvey Hospital and is close to junction 10 of the M20. Parking is available and is ideally located for candidates living in and around the Ashford area.
