This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive Medical Secretary with extensive experience in primary care to play a key role within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. You will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to clinicians and operational teams, ensuring referrals, correspondence, patient records, and workflows are managed efficiently and accurately. The role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and confidence working with medical terminology and NHS systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing referrals through NHS electronic systems including eRS
  • Typing and formatting clinical letters, reports, and referrals
  • Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence
  • Maintaining accurate patient records using EMIS and other clinical systems
  • Supporting workflow management and monitoring clinical/admin inboxes
  • Processing patient registrations and deductions
  • Liaising with hospitals, consultants, and community services
  • Handling prescription and medication administration queries
  • Supporting clinicians with medical reports and urgent administrative tasks
  • Ensuring all work complies with GDPR, confidentiality, and NHS policies
  • Assisting with audits, searches, data collection, and quality improvement projects
What We’re Looking For
  • Essential: Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary or Administrator within General Practice
  • Experience using EMIS clinical systems
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and NHS processes
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and IT skills
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • Desirable: Medical Secretarial qualification
  • Audio typing experience
  • Extensive knowledge of primary care procedures and referral pathways
