About the role
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our Finance Team. The post holder will provide accurate, timely and efficient accounting support, taking responsibility for a range of duties under the direction of the Finance Manager. This role is suited to an individual with experience beyond entry level, particularly in reconciliations, and who is confident working with financial systems and spreadsheets.
Duties and responsibilities
- Carry out regular reconciliations including bank, debtor, creditor and control accounts.
- Investigate, resolve and clearly document discrepancies identified during reconciliation activity.
- Process purchase and sales ledger transactions accurately and promptly.
- Support month-end activities including preparation of reconciliation schedules and supporting information.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Use Microsoft Excel to analyse and manipulate data, including the use of formulas, pivot tables and lookups.
- Input, maintain and review financial data on the Compucare billing system (or similar systems).
- Assist with monitoring outstanding debt, including reconciliation of aged debtors and follow-up action where required.
- Respond to internal and external finance-related queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Work flexibly within the Finance Team, providing cover and assistance to colleagues as required.
- Undertake additional duties in support of the Finance function as directed by the Finance Manager.
Key skills and experience
- Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role (non-entry level).
- Demonstrable experience of performing reconciliations accurately and independently.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and lookups.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of numerical accuracy.
- Experience using finance or billing systems; exposure to Compucare is an advantage.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
