The Programme Manager will provide day-to-day leadership and coordination for the Urgent Care Coordination programme, a 12-month initiative focused on strengthening urgent care coordination across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). Working with Clinical Directors, system partners and frontline teams, the postholder will help turn agreed priorities into practical delivery, supporting clearer pathways, improved service coordination and stronger alternatives to hospital admission.
Key responsibilities
- Lead delivery of the Care Coordination programme, taking forward the outputs from the system-wide discovery work approved by the Urgent and Emergency Care Operational Delivery Group and System Executive Group.
- Work closely with Clinical Directors to develop, own and maintain the programme plan, risk register and workstream tracker, ensuring clear oversight of progress, dependencies and risks.
- Lead the development of pathway maps and a comprehensive, live service directory across BNSSG providers, ensuring information is detailed, accurate and kept up to date.
- Support the re-orientation of urgent care co-ordination options towards the front door, helping to strengthen alternatives to hospital admission.
- Support the development of a business case and options appraisal for a future integrated Urgent Care Coordination function.
- Develop and maintain the patient and public involvement mechanism, ensuring lived-experience insight is meaningfully embedded throughout the programme.
- Produce clear, timely monthly reports for the Programme Board, highlighting progress, risks, issues and key decisions required.
- Engage and communicate effectively with system partners, frontline staff and other stakeholders to maintain momentum and progress agreed workstreams.
- Co-create and work alongside a multi-agency Advisory Group, ensuring effective reporting into the BNSSG Urgent and Emergency Care Operational Delivery Group.
- Maintain strong links with relevant parallel system transformation programmes, including the BNSSG Intermediate Care Programme, to support alignment and avoid duplication.
- Undertake any other duties that emerge as the programme develops and that are appropriate to the role.
Skills and experience
- A recognised project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, AgilePM, APM).
- Significant experience in managing complex projects from initiation to closure.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including senior leaders, clinicians, and external partners.
- Strong track record in risk management, resource planning, and performance monitoring.
- Experience using project management software and tools.
- Experience of working within the NHS or a similarly complex health and care environment.
- Experience in budget management and financial reporting.
- Experience in engaging patients and the public.
Contract
- Fixed-term for 12 months.
- 30 – 37.5 hours per week.
