Working pattern: 30 hours per week, hybrid working, with 2 days at Osprey Court, South Bristol, with occasional travel across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG).

The Senior Communications Officer will play a key role in delivering high-quality, engaging and effective communications to support OneCare's strategic priorities across BNSSG. This is a varied and fast-paced role requiring an experienced communications all-rounder who can write and edit compelling content, manage multiple communication channels, and produce high-quality digital assets.

Writing regular newsletters and bulletins is a core requirement of the role, so applicants must have exceptional attention to detail and excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. The postholder will oversee the day-to-day delivery of OneCare's regular communications, including leading the operational management of the organization's social media channels and working closely with internal teams and system partners to ensure clear, consistent and impactful messaging across both One Care and practice channels.

Main duties of the job:
  • Plan and deliver multi-channel communications activity that supports OneCare's strategic goals, organisational priorities and contractual responsibilities.
  • Create and maintain high-quality written, visual and digital content across websites, newsletters, social media, email platforms, intranet and press communications.
  • Develop compelling stories, case studies, interviews, articles, videos and other content by working with services, GP practices and system partners.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including GP practices, system partners and senior leaders, to gather insight, shape messaging and translate complex or sensitive information into clear, accessible communications.
  • Support media and reputation management by drafting press releases, reactive statements, background briefings and key messages for proactive opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate communications activity, using insights and analytics to improve performance, reach and impact.
  • Ensure all communications are accessible, inclusive, brand-consistent and aligned with organisational values and NHS standards where appropriate.
  • Lead the day-to-day management of OneCare's social media channels and identify opportunities to strengthen presence across existing and emerging digital platforms.
  • Create professional digital assets, including social media posts, graphics, photography, short-form video and content for member practices' digital channels and display screens, tailored to audience needs.
Job responsibilities:
  • The post will be based at Osprey Court in South Bristol, but there may be a requirement to work across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area.
  • We have a hybrid working policy which requires staff to work a minimum of two days in the office, within general practice or at locations of our system partners.
Key responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop and deliver multi-channel communications activity to support OneCare's strategic goals, organisational priorities and contractual/operational responsibilities.
  • Create high quality written and visual content for a range of channels, including websites, newsletters, social media, digital platforms and press communications.
  • Develop compelling stories from services, GP practices and system partners to produce case studies, interviews, articles, short videos and other visual content as required.
  • Work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including GP practices, system partners and senior leaders, to gather information and shape messaging, translating complex or sensitive information into accessible communications.
  • Media and reputation management: drafting press releases and reactive media statements as required, alongside preparing background briefings and key messages for proactive media opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate communications activity, using insights and analytics to improve performance and impact.
  • Ensure all communications are accessible, inclusive and aligned with organisational values and NHS standards where appropriate.
  • Lead the operational management of OneCare's social media channels, including emerging platforms.
  • Create and maintain content across multiple digital channels (e.g. website, intranet, email platforms and social media).
  • Design, plan and deliver engaging digital content, including social media posts, short-form video, graphics and photography, aligned to both One Care and member practices' priorities and values.
  • Create digital assets for use on One Care's external website, intranet site, social media and any specialist microsites or standalone websites, ensuring brand consistency throughout.
  • Create professional content for member practices' digital channels, including social media and digital display screens, tailored to individual member needs.
Supporting communications planning and campaign delivery:
  • Support the development and implementation of communications plans and campaigns by translating communications plans into detailed content plans and schedules.
  • Coordinating delivery timelines and ensuring campaign deadlines are met.
  • Supporting integration across channels to ensure strategic priorities are delivered effectively and consistently.
  • Managing social media calendars and posting across all channels, and identifying emerging channels where it is felt OneCare may benefit from having a consistent presence.

Qualifications:
  • Educated to degree level in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.
Experience:
  • Experience working in a communications, engagement or public relations role, ideally within healthcare, public sector or a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, evidenced by producing high-quality content for a range of channels and audiences.
  • Experience in managing content across multiple platforms, including websites, email and social media.
  • Experience in producing and editing video content for digital channels.
  • Experience of creating static digital content, such as graphics, and basic design using tools such as Canva.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders and building effective relationships.
  • Experience in internal communications campaign planning and delivery, including staff engagement and change communications.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience in supporting the planning and delivery of events, including communications support for conferences, webinars or stakeholder forums.
  • Familiarity with design tools, such as Canva.
  • Experience in media relations, including handling media enquiries and building relationships with journalists.
  • Experience working within the NHS, primary care or a healthcare federation.
  • Professional membership/accreditation from a relevant body, such as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
  • Experience using content management systems and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of the policy and operational landscape affecting general practice and primary care.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive communications practices.
  • Experience in using other design platforms, such as Adobe Creative Suite, and email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
