Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer to be involved in the projects we complete from design, specification, test and build and commissioning.

You will be working on projects primarily destined for the railway environment.

These systems might typically consist of integrated technology such as line scanning and machine vision cameras, lighting, laser measurement systems, thermal sensors, industrial embedded Linux, IP networking, GPS/4G/5G.

We use a combination of in-house electronics and off the shelf products to put together bespoke systems.

Our own designs span analogue, digital, FPGA and microcontroller work.

The ideal candidate will hold a broad fundamental understanding of this type of technology and ideally some existing experience in the rail industry.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of custom PCB and enclosures.
  • Create initial prototypes and see them through to mature products.
  • Integration of COTS hardware products or components.
  • Management of small-scale manufacturing and new product introduction.
  • Assist on product certification/approvals – e. g. EN50155, EN45545, EN50125
  • Delivering solutions on new and existing projects, ensuring compliance to project requirements, budget and timelines.
  • Identify and mitigate technical project risks.
  • Take ownership and assist with complex technical problems.
  • Carry out research in order to contribute towards well informed technical decisions.
  • Communicate proactively with other team members to provide encouragement, identify problems, create solutions and unblock technical issues.
  • Testing and fault finding.
  • Create and maintain technical and test documentation.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel to our Derby office as required by the role.
  • Personal Qualities
  • Strong delivery-focused work ethic.
  • Proactive and take ownership, driving tasks forward and seeing problems through to resolution.
  • Keen to learn and develop, with a genuine enthusiasm for technology and product development.
  • Pragmatic and commercially aware, balancing technical performance with cost, manufacturability and time-to-market.
  • Resilient and solutions-focused, learning quickly.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable adapting to changing priorities.
  • Clear communicator and collaborative team player, comfortable working with different engineering disciplines.
  • Take care about the end product and customer experience, not just the engineering behind it.

Experience

  • 3+ years experience delivering projects in an industrial environment.
  • STM32 experience or equivalent.
  • Experience with prototyping, bring-up, testing and debugging electronic hardware.
  • Flexible and adaptable style of approach but with meticulous and systematic attention to detail when it matters.
  • Experience taking products through design verification, validation and into manufacture.
  • Experience working with manufacturing partners and resolving production issues.
  • Certification/approvals experience (e. g. EN50155).
  • Experience working in cross-functional product development teams, alongside firmware, software, mechanical and manufacturing engineers.
  • UK Driving license and willingness to drive to various UK site locations when required.

You would be a valued part of a small but growing team where your ideas and opinions are valued as we continue the exciting journey of One Big Circle.
