As a Driver Specialist, you will hand over, deliver and collect our vehicles to and from our DC’s completing relevant inspections along the way. The role will also involve preparing the vehicles for rental.

Working as part of a team to keep our fleet safe by ensuring a safe, fit‑for‑purpose and available vehicle fleet meet externally set standards and with a specific purpose to:

  • Assist with key maintenance processes of our specialist vehicle fleet within Fleet Services’ by providing practical administration of all aspects of repair, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and depot.
  • Help reduce vehicle maintenance costs and maximise fleet availability by ensuring vehicle administration is carried out in a timely manner.

Key responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to ensure delivery of Vehicle Services’ strategic priorities, support a culture of organisational learning and sustain the wellbeing of self and others.
  • This role has specific responsibility to:
  • Preparing Ambulances to a high standard ready for customer collection or delivery.
  • Driving Ambulance to and from local external garages for work to be done.
  • Assisting the Vehicle Services and Fleet Managers to help evaluate a vehicles condition.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols.
  • Maintain company equipment to a high standard.
  • Inspect all Ambulances collected or returned from external agents and DC’s to ensure they are acceptable prior to completion of collection documentation.
  • Inspect Ambulances that arrive on site, ensure the correct completion of the vehicle checks and identify unreported exterior damage.
  • Clean Ambulance to pre‑described standards; normally involves cleaning all exterior bodywork, road wheels, glass and interior vacuum cleaning.
  • Regularly clean the vehicle workshop/ yard, including the separation of recyclable items and organise collection and clean spillages in a timely manner.

Skills Required

  • Good level of communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with Driver Companions and Staff at all levels.
  • Work as part of a team and unsupervised when necessary.
  • Professional attitude.
  • Work flexibly to meet deadlines.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and committed.
  • Full Clean DVLA driving licence – Drives cars – manual and automatic.
  • Experience of fitting vehicle tracks would be an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Good self‑discipline, can work proactively without being constantly supervised.
  • Good work ethic – hardworking, punctual and reliable.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to use their own initiative.
  • Basic understanding of how to use computers for data entry – Training provided.
