We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate nurse to join our dynamic and hard-working team within Gynae-oncology. This exciting opportunity as a band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist is open for experienced nurses looking to specialise within this rewarding area of oncology and to work as part of a supportive and committed multi‑professional team.
You will be based within Oncology Outpatients, working in close relation with Radiotherapy, Oncology Day Unit, Cancer Assessment unit and the inpatient wards. You will work closely with the fellow band 7, the band 6s in the team and the wider MDT to deliver holistic, patient‑centred care to individuals with gynae‑oncological cancers throughout their cancer pathway.
You will play a key role in coordinating care from the point of referral, through active treatment, surveillance and assisting with the transition from treatment to best supportive care. You will play a crucial part in ensuring patients and their relatives feel informed, supported, and educated about their diagnosis and treatment. You will be supported in this role by the current band 7 and assist in developing and expanding the service, providing education to the division when required and to be a key point of contact for information and guidance to both staff and patients.
Main Duties of the Job
- The post holder will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients while co‑ordinating and streamlining their care.
- Responsible for providing specialist advice and support about symptoms and side effects of cancer and treatments.
- Competent in undertaking telephone triage with appropriate escalation and follow‑up.
- Work independently and form plans of care on a nurse‑led basis.
- Keep up to date with developments in cancer care and treatments.
- The post holder is a recognised expert in the speciality, responsible for assessment, development and implementation of specialist nursing care.
- Be able to communicate effectively, and work closely, with various members of the MDT, other departments and members of staff throughout the trust.
