Onalaja is an emerging womenswear brand. As an Embroidery Intern, you will support the smooth running of the studio while assisting the designer with embroidery development and hand-finished detailing across collections. This role includes helping create samples, preparing embroidery components, assisting with embellishment placement, studio organisation and day-to-day tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with hand embroidery, beading, sequins, appliqué and embellishment work
- Preparing garments and fabrics for embroidery sampling
- Supporting design development through moodboards and embroidery research
- Sourcing trims, beads, threads, crystals and embroidery materials when needed
- Helping with quality control checks on embellished garments
- Repairing, finishing and hand sewing garments where required
- Packing customer orders carefully, especially delicate embellished pieces
- Organising studio materials, trims library and embroidery stock
- Supporting with errands and studio operations when needed
- Assisting with production preparation and sampling deadlines
You will play an important role in helping bring designs to life through craftsmanship while ensuring the studio remains organised and efficient.
Profile
- Studying Fashion Design, Textiles, Embroidery, Surface Design or a related subject
- Strong interest in embellishment, embroidery and luxury craftsmanship
- Proficient in hand sewing, hand stitching and hand finishing
- Basic knowledge of garment construction and fabric handling
- Good eye for colour, placement, texture and detail
- Organised, hardworking and highly attentive to detail
- Positive attitude and eager to learn within a growing fashion brand

Requirements
- Passionate about building and researching the brand vision and identity
- Strong hand embroidery skills including beading, sequins or appliqué preferred
- Excel / Google Sheets experience
- Experience in PowerPoint / Google Slides / Canva
- Basic presentation skills
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- High level of computer literacy in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of fashion design processes, fabric bases and colour
- Familiarity in creating moodboards and design boards
- Basic machine sewing skills is a bonus
- Able to sketch ideas and embellishment layouts
- Technical drawings and tech pack knowledge is a bonus
- Graphic design skills are a bonus
