Test Train Rider – New Fleet Introduction
A field-based, safety-critical role riding new trains across the network during trial running and early passenger service, acting as the on-board eyes and ears for the fleet introduction programme.
What you’ll be doing:
- Riding newly introduced trains in service across the network, observing and recording how the fleet performs against expected standards
- Witnessing test carried out by OEM Engineers or third parties suppliers.
- Monitoring key systems on board — traction, braking, doors, HVAC, PIS, CCTV, and cab equipment — and logging any anomalies or deviations
- Reporting faults, deficiencies, and observations accurately into the fleet management system to support the wider engineering and commissioning team
- Acting as the on-train point of contact between train crew, depot engineers, network control, and the OEM's technical representatives
- Witnessing and recording test runs, feeding results into the formal commissioning and acceptance record
- Noting patterns and trends in performance data, escalating concerns to the Fleet Introduction Manager or manufacturer as required
- Attending debrief sessions and contributing to daily and weekly fleet performance reports
