On the Road to Wellness is a non-clinical, member-driven peer support organization focused on supporting adults aged 18 and older in their mental health recovery and wellness journeys. With over 35 years of experience, we provide a safe and inclusive environment where individuals can cultivate and maintain their own sense of wellness through the power of education, communication, and engaging activities. We believe in fostering community ties and enhancing life skills through our various programs. Our services include free transportation, and we operate without insurance or identification requirements, ensuring that all individuals can access our support.
As we continue to grow and expand our outreach, we are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Residential Peer Support Specialist to join our team. This person will provide peer support for up to 3 guests at a time in a residential setting. If you are passionate about strategically using your own experiences to show others they are not alone when they feel challenged by life's ups and downs, we would love to hear from you!
The scheduled shifts this position requires are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 7am to 3pm, for a total of 24 hours per week. At the Step-Up Step-Down home, we provide direct support to individuals who are seeking an alternative to a traditional psychiatric in-patient stay. We offer 24-hour peer support to those who are actively working on their mental health and wellness goals. Our guests benefit from a private room in a peaceful home-like environment, transportation to appointments, and the freedom to attend school, work part time, enjoy social activities, and engage in wellness-related community events.
We make efforts to connect with each individual to learn about their experiences and unique needs, strategically share our own lived experiences and wellness strategies, and offer accountability and encouragement as they work toward their personal wellness goals. We facilitate daily groups and 1-on-1 conversations and offer relevant resources to help guests address unmet needs like stable housing, access to food, and additional mental and physical health supports.
Reliable transportation, a valid license, and a reasonably clean driving record are required.
A strong commitment to your own recovery, self-care, and wellness, excellent communication skills and work ethic, a willingness to be open and honest about your mental health journey, an ability to be strategic and tactful when sharing personal details, and a desire to learn, grow, and be trained as a Certified Peer Support Specialist are essential.
The benefits of working with the Step-Up Step-Down team with On the Road to Wellness include a flexible and relaxed atmosphere, supportive environment, and consistent opportunities to connect, learn, and grow. We offer on-the-job training in how to support others in a non-clinical capacity and to gain a nationally recognized Certified Peer Support Specialist credential.
