We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Counter Assistant to join our well-established and highly regarded butchery department at Fodder - the Great Yorkshire Food Hall. If you’re passionate about exceptional customer service, and showcasing the very best of Yorkshire produce, this could be the perfect role for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting up the counter.
- Helping and serving customers.
- Assisting with stock rotation, cleaning and working safely.
- Work to ensure economical, quality and timely preparation.
- Observe methods of preparation and storage to ensure meat is prepared in the prescribed manner.
- Promote lines to customers to limit waste and utilise seasonal products.
- Provide excellent helpful and friendly customer service.
- Ensure that we maintain high standards on all areas of the business and meet all legislative requirements including environmental health and food preparation.
- Assist with the daily cleaning and planned maintenance of all butchery premises and equipment, to ensure the highest standards.
- Any other appropriate duties which may be added from time to time.

About You
Essential
- Friendly, approachable manner with a strong customer-service focus.
- Ability to serve customers confidently at a fresh food counter.
- Willingness to handle raw meat and follow food safety procedures.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Understanding of the importance of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible with working hours (including weekends).
Desirable
- Previous experience working on a butchery, deli, or fresh food counter.
- Basic knowledge of meat cuts and products.
- Food hygiene or food safety training (Level 1 or 2).
- Experience using weighing scales and tills.
- Confidence in upselling and product recommendations.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn and be trained in food preparation.
- Attention to detail, especially with weights, pricing, and labelling.
