About On Call Security: On Call Security is a growing UK home security company providing professionally installed security solutions, including home alarm systems, CCTV and other home protection services. As the business continues to grow, we are investing further in our in-house marketing operation and are looking for a dedicated Google Ads / PPC Specialist to take ownership of our paid search activity. Google Ads is already an established lead-generation channel within the business. We have active campaigns, historical performance data and internal reporting covering advertising spend, enquiries, completed sales and revenue. You will therefore not be starting from scratch.

The Role: This is a hands-on role where you will take day-to-day responsibility for the company's Google Ads account while working alongside our existing marketing team. We are looking for someone who understands that successful PPC management is about more than simply generating the cheapest possible lead. Our focus is ultimately on:

  • You will have access to information from further down the sales funnel and will be encouraged to use this data when making advertising decisions.
  • The objective of the role is not simply to increase spend. It is to help On Call Security generate more profitable business through paid advertising.

Key Responsibilities: Your role will include:

  • Managing and optimising Google Ads campaigns on a day-to-day basis.
  • Taking ownership of campaign performance and advertising budgets.
  • Reviewing campaign, ad group, keyword and search-term performance.
  • Identifying wasted advertising spend.
  • Building and maintaining negative keyword strategies.
  • Creating and testing new campaigns, ads, keywords and targeting strategies.
  • Improving cost per lead while maintaining or improving lead quality.
  • Monitoring cost per completed sale and return on advertising spend.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase advertising budgets responsibly.
  • Managing and reviewing automated bidding strategies.
  • Analysing geographic performance.
  • Reviewing device, audience, day-of-week and time-of-day performance.
  • Monitoring search demand and impression share.
  • Improving conversion tracking and attribution.
  • Helping connect Google Ads activity with actual completed sales and revenue.
  • Working with offline conversion data where appropriate.
  • Helping improve the quality of conversion data being passed back into Google Ads.
  • Reviewing landing-page performance and recommending improvements.
  • Running structured campaign tests and experiments.
  • Reporting clearly on campaign performance.
  • Explaining what has changed within the account, why it was changed and what impact it had.
  • Working with the wider marketing and sales teams to understand the quality of leads being generated.
  • Identifying opportunities to scale successful campaigns without simply increasing budgets blindly.

What We're Looking For: We are ideally looking for somebody at an intermediate Google Ads / PPC level who already has genuine hands-on experience managing paid-search campaigns. You do not need to know everything from day one, but you should be comfortable independently managing a Google Ads account and explaining the reasoning behind the decisions you make. We are particularly interested in somebody who wants to continue developing their skills while taking meaningful ownership of an important acquisition channel within a growing company. Ideally, you will have experience with:

  • Google Ads Search campaigns.
  • Keyword research.
  • Search-term analysis.
  • Negative keyword management.
  • Creating and testing advertising copy.
  • Conversion tracking.
  • Google Analytics / GA4.
  • Automated bidding strategies.
  • CPA and ROAS optimisation.
  • Analysing conversion rates.
  • Reporting and performance analysis.
  • Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Identifying trends and investigating changes in campaign performance.

Experience with offline conversion tracking, CRM integrations, enhanced conversions for leads or value-based bidding would be particularly useful, although these are not essential if you have a strong willingness to develop in these areas. Previous experience within home security, home improvement or another lead-generation business would also be useful, but is not required.

Who Would Suit This Role? We are not looking for somebody whose entire approach is simply to increase campaign budgets and allow Google's automated systems to make every decision. We want someone who is naturally curious about performance. You should want to understand things such as:

  • Why did one campaign generate better customers than another?
  • Why does one geographical area perform better than another?
  • Which searches generate actual sales rather than simply enquiries?
  • Where are we wasting advertising spend?
  • Why has conversion performance changed?
  • How much further can a successful campaign be scaled before efficiency begins to deteriorate?

You should be comfortable testing ideas, analysing the results and changing your approach when the data suggests something isn't working. You should also be able to communicate your findings clearly to people who don't work within Google Ads every day.

What You'll Be Joining: This is an in-house role, rather than an agency position. Instead of managing a large portfolio of unrelated client accounts, you will have the opportunity to understand one business and its customer journey in considerably greater depth. Our marketing team already monitors advertising spend, enquiries, sales and revenue, allowing us to look beyond surface-level advertising metrics such as clicks and form submissions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape how On Call Security's paid acquisition strategy develops as the company continues to grow. There is also scope for the role to develop alongside the performance and scale of the advertising operation.

Salary & Benefits: £30,000 per year, before tax. The role includes:

  • Monday-to-Friday working pattern.
  • Standard UK holiday entitlement.
  • UK bank holidays.
  • Primarily office-based working.
  • Parking available nearby, although parking is not directly outside the building.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of an established Google Ads account.
  • Access to sales and revenue performance data rather than being measured purely on lead volume.
  • Opportunity to influence future advertising budgets and strategy.
  • Opportunity to develop experience in conversion tracking, attribution and paid-media scaling.
  • Work alongside an established internal marketing team.

Christmas closure: On Call Security usually closes over the Christmas period. Exact closure dates and how these interact with annual leave entitlement will be confirmed as part of the employment package.

Driving & Location: The position is based at: On Call Security Fallings Park Park Ln WV10 9QB. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be preferred, particularly due to the office location and for any occasional travel that may be required, but this is not currently an essential requirement for the role. Parking is available within the surrounding area, although spaces are not directly outside the building.

What Success Looks Like: During your first few months, we would expect you to become familiar with the existing account, campaigns and customer journey. You would then begin identifying opportunities to improve both performance and measurement. Success could include:

  • Improved measurement: Helping ensure that Google Ads is receiving reliable information about which enquiries eventually become customers.
  • Reduced wasted spend: Identifying searches, locations, campaigns or targeting that are consuming budget without producing sufficient commercial value.
  • Better-quality leads: Looking beyond headline cost per lead and helping generate enquiries that are more likely to become customers.
  • Structured testing: Testing changes in a controlled way and using the results to guide future decisions.
  • Responsible scaling: Identifying where additional advertising budget can be deployed without allowing acquisition costs or return on advertising spend to deteriorate unnecessarily.
  • Commercial reporting: Being able to explain whether additional advertising spend is actually generating additional profitable business.

Experience: We would ideally like candidates with approximately 2+ years of practical Google Ads / PPC experience, although we are open to applicants with slightly less experience who can demonstrate a strong understanding of paid search and genuine hands-on account management. Formal qualifications are less important to us than your ability to demonstrate what you have actually done. We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have previously managed meaningful advertising budgets and can explain how they improved account performance.
